Voice Reader: Hints and Tips

I want to have a Word document read out to me - what do I need to do?
You have two options: you can either load the Word file directly into the Voice Reader window, or you can use the plugin in Word. You will then also find the Voice Reader functions in the usual Word environment.
Tip: To avoid generating a sound file that is too large and long, you can select the "Page" option (for page-by-page speech output) or the "Export" option in the drop-down menu!

How do I get e-mails on my MP3 player?
In the Voice Reader options, set the file format MP3 for the export. You also have a Voice Reader plugin in Outlook. Here, you can specify in the options in the drop-down menu that all e-mails, upon arrival in your mailbox, should be automatically exported to the drive letter of the MP3 player: "Automatically export e-mails upon receipt".
Note: You should use a spam filter!

How can I have PDF documents and Web pages read out to me?
Start Voice Reader Direct. Select (highlight) the text you would like to hear. Depending on how your Voice Reader Direct is set, you can now listen to the text at the click of a mouse (for example, right-click and press the Shift key at the same time). Exporting as MP3 or WAV works just as easily and quickly: for example, right-click and press the Alt key at the same time.
Adobe Acrobat has its own plugin for Voice Reader, but all open PDF documents can also be read out from Adobe Acrobat Reader. Simply click the "Text Select Tool" button and you can select (highlight) the text with the mouse.

Some words are not pronounced very well - how can I improve the reading quality?
Foreign words often follow other rules than in German. Voice Reader German can correctly pronounce important foreign words and names that occur often. If it doesn't work properly, help the program a little with its pronunciation: Simply write "Bekenboua" instead of "Beckenbauer" and then it sounds better.

Bookmarking audio files in iTunes 5 and later:
Starting with iTunes 5, you can enable a bookmarking feature that lets you bookmark any audio or video file in your iTunes library. This allows you to pick up from where you left off the last time you listened to or viewed the file. To enable an audio or video file's bookmarking function, do this:

  1. Select a desired file in iTunes.
  2. From the File menu, choose Get Info.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Select the "Remember playback position" checkbox.
  5. Click OK.
